7 skin and hair care tips during trekking

by - April 03, 2018

Before you read on, I have combination skin that tends to get very dry in the cold. My hair is on the oily side. I have been using all the products mentioned below for a long time now. Here go the tips-

1. Invest in a good moisturizer
For dry/combination skin, Aveeno Dermaxa Emollient Soothing Cream works great and also doubles as lip balm (triples as hand cream too). Travel light, remember! If this cream feels too heavy on the face, mix a tad bit of it with 2 drops of rose water. It is non-greasy and suits sensitive skin as well.
If you want to stick to your existing moisturizer and need an add-on then invest in St.Botanica Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum for that extra hydration.

2. Carry your own pillowcase
If not staying in tea houses then you can keep it at the hood of your sleeping bag.

3. Carry gentle facial wipes for a sweat-free face on those long days. Ensure that they are paraben-free, without alcohol and unperfumed.

4. Stash in baby wipes and talc to prevent and tackle skin rash, you know where.

5. Sunscreen is an absolute must. Here's how to choose one:
  • Go for a high SPF and non-comedogenic product. I recommend Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Lightweight Sunscreen Spray, SPF 70. The spray makes it easy to spread it on arms and legs. Suitable for the face as well but do not spray directly on it.
  • If you prefer natural products then Innisfree has options for all skin types.
  • If you are very sensitive to the Sun then pick a sunblock instead.
Apply 15 minutes before you step out in the Sun and re-apply during the day.

6. Argan oil for hair
Apply argan oil, the liquid gold for hair, if you fear hair damage. It protects hair from the dry weather as well as the harsh sun rays. It is non-sticky and also keeps frizz at bay. Most brands do not sell pure argan oil so beware. You can go for the one sold by Soulflower.

7. And ladies, carry panty-liners if it gets too cold to change.
